CNN/Money columnist David Futrelle has a warning for underperforming Nasdaq stocks with prices below $1: the delisting notices are in the mail. Think I should be worried?

Indiana coach Mike Davis
My hero, Indiana coach Mike Davis.
Indiana was 17 points behind tonight against Duke, the No. 1 ranked defending national champions expected by many to be cutting down the nets on April 1st. The Blue Devils will be spending April Fools’ Day back in Durham, though, after Mike Davis outcoached Coach K and Big Ten Player of the Year Jared Jeffries led the scrappy Hoosiers to an upset 74-73 win.

Coach Davis had some big shoes to fill when he replaced Bobby Knight in the wake of allegations that Knight physically assaulted his players, but SportsLine.com hoops guru Dan Wetzel argues that this win shows Davis is the real deal. From Dan’s column: “If you couldn’t love IU tonight, if you couldn’t share the utter joy felt by this passionate yet shy, God-praising yet intense Alabama native then you must have been a Duke man or too hung up on the past.”

My bracket in the office pool was shot to hell after last weekend’s games, but my choices had basically ensured me the booby prize (ten percent of the pot). This year’s tournament has featured some great contests, but no game had me jumping out of my seat and screaming at the television like this one did. I think my last-place finish might even be in jeopardy. I’ll surrender it gladly.

Zeldman noted a few days ago that Georgia is the new Verdana, then pointed out a great example: Greg Storey’s Airbag. I at once have the urge to speak in the third person and adjust my style sheets.

I managed to get to Austin with two laptops—and no socks. Before I made it to the airport in Philadelphia, I realized what I’d forgotten but there was no time to turn back. Robert and got here on Friday morning, and the hunt for socks was on as soon as our planes hit the tarmac.

But day one was too early to start panicking—Robert had offered to share the socks which he’d brought, so there was no sense of urgency.

Spotting a travelling celebrity, I briefly considered the unthinkable—but quickly thought better of it. It was only day two, and we still had socks to spare between us. No need to resort to violence.

Day three. We were now out of socks, and as neither of us had sandals, it was now or never. The word around town was that we needed to get to “The Drag” (no, not that one). Sporting our brand-new Gap crew socks, we enjoyed the rest of the conference.

I made it to Austin, and this site made it to Movable Type. It was a long way coming, but I was inspired earlier this evening to finally at least commit to the switch (if not perfect it). MT is by far the best thing going right now, and I’m glad to be able to take advantage of it. Oh, and in case you hadn’t heard, Brad definitely throws the best shindigs in town.

Far too young to die

Boobs.
Boobs.
Somehow I’ve managed to generate a lot of traffic by dedicating this site to John Ashcroft’s horrific song, “Let the Eagle Soar” — here are some links (most courtesy of MetaFilter):

CNN: Ashcroft sings

IFILM: John Ashcroft Sings! (filed under “Comedy”)

Guardian Unlimited: Loony tunes

beliefnet: The Anointed (they’re not joking)

Another song (audio only) from The Smoking Gun: “Blessed Be That City”

The words:

“Let the eagle soar,

Like she’s never soared before.

From rocky coast to golden shore,

Let the mighty eagle soar.

Soar with healing in her wings,

As the land beneath her sings:

‘Only god, no other kings.’

This country’s far too young to die.

We’ve still got a lot of climbing to do,

And we can make it if we try.

Built by toils and struggles

God has led us through.”

Think PinkVoting has started to decide which color candy will be added to M&M’s packages. There are three options, but pink is really the only choice. Vote now.

Memory boost

Apple’s iBook is easy to open up and mess with, so I wasn’t really worried about adding RAM to it—but a little reassurance never hurts. So when I got home tonight with my 256MB upgrade, I flipped over to Apple’s site and clicked through the step-by-step QuickTime movie while I installed the card. It went off without a hitch, and now I’ve boosted this cute machine from 128MB to a much more respectable 384MB.

Along with the RAM I also ordered two Lucent WaveLAN Silver cards, the start of my planned wireless home network. Emboldened by sites which explain how to get Macs up and running on 802.11b networks without using Apple-branded AirPort equipment (and by images like this one from SourceForge which show that the very card I bought is at the heart of the AirPort base station), I’ve decided to give it a go. Soon, instead of being unproductive stuck at my desk, I’ll be unplugging all these wires and being unproductive all over my house—and even on the deck. Oh, and if you happen to be within range of my fledgling Wi-Fi network, feel free to make like David Sarno and hook yourself up.
