You’re not your khakis
I took a course or two with Prof. Sut Jhally as an undergrad, so I was interested to see the Globe and Mail story posted at Metafilter. The reactions to the story weren’t nearly as interesting, though, ranging from “love it or leave it” to wholesale rejection of the idea that consumerism is out of control. In the interview, Jhally mentions the importance of reaching “the kid in the baseball cap in the back row of class”—I’m still back here listening, nodding my head… and working in marketing.
