barkingmoose: I’m swearing off Mountain Dew. They don’t sell the stuff in Europe, which is just as well. Absence didn’t make my heart grow fonder, it made me a former Dew drinker. (And no, that doesn’t mean I’ve switched to Red Bull—all I can think when I’m drinking that stuff is that my heart is about to explode.)

I’m swearing off Mountain Dew. They don’t sell the stuff in Europe, which is just as well. Absence didn’t make my heart grow fonder, it made me a former Dew drinker. I wish I could swear off, but the pushers at PepsiCo came out with that Mtn Dew Code Red, in all of it's sweet evil red goodness. Any withdrawl pains should be swift and terrible. But Red Bull and the like frighten me even more.

You gotta understand, I walked into store after store, peered into newsstand after newsstand and there was no Mountain Dew to be found, and I felt at once lost and betrayed. Even US chains like Pizza Hut and KFC -- didn't Pepsi own those restaurants until recently? They even sell something hideous called Pepsi Max over there, a Euro version of Pepsi One. Everything I'd read recently said Mountain Dew was the fastest growing soft drink, that Code Red was breaking records, so what gives? The whole experience was very disappointing.

Pepsi Max is available in New Zealand as well, but then so is Mountain Dew.
Dew is just too sweet for me, whether it's Red or Pee Yellow. It offends my tastebuds. Red tastes like someone suspended those horrible preserved cherries in liquid. I need something with an acidic note to it I spose.
The withdrawl was harsh but you're better for it. Go and explore new drinks! Dance among the aisles at Superfresh knowing you are not shackled to any beverage!
