These posters sprung up in Chapel Hill during the 1996 election season.
I voted against Jesse Helms once. During his last Senate campaign in 1996, Helms defeated his Democratic (and black) challenger Harvey Gantt 52%-46%. Close enough to give some hope for the future, but not enough to save North Carolina (and the rest of the country) from six more years of bigotry, hatred and ignorance.

He’s been feeble-minded for quite some time (some might argue since birth), but now that he’s zooming around the halls of the Senate on his Lark and barely intelligible, he’s fixin’ to three-wheel it back to Hazzard.

His seat is Elizabeth Dole’s to lose now—she’s never been elected to anything, but she’s got enough name recognition to basically roll over anyone who challenges her. Start the countdown now.
